A project supported by the Fondation de France, the Fondation Daniel et Nina Carasso, the Fondation des Artistes, in partnership with the FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and the Académie d’Aix-Marseilles.
With the support of the Academician Mrs. Barbara Cassin and the Academic Inspector Mrs. Odile Aubert.
Les “Nouveaux commanditaires” (The New Patrons) is a project delivered since the 1990s. People wrestling with issues of society and land development are given the chance to share their concerns with contemporary artists by commissioning works. The originality of the scheme lies in the intersection of three groups of participants who are supported by the public and private partners: artists, ordinary people who commission works, and cultural mediators approved by the Fondation de France. To know more.
THE MARSEILLAISE
TYPOGRAPHY OF THE COLLÈGE VIEUX PORT
2020-2023
typographY, créole alphabet
collaboration : So-Hyun Bae & Federico Parra Barrios, graphic designers and type designers
In the French language as it is used in France, thirty-seven phonemes are listed. Their association composes words and enable us to express ourselves. The typography "La Marseillaise" makes it possible to write in French with all the alphabets of the languages spoken in the collège Vieux Port of Marseilles. Each of the thirty-seven phonemes of the French language is materialized by a sign of one of the languages spoken by the students of the school, capable of also producing this sound.
To read this typography, it is necessary to bring together speakers of different languages – each one contributes to the reading by knowing the pronunciation of the signs.
The French language becomes a host, able to welcome, articulate together and make coexist languages present on its territory.
